Scouting the Mavericks: UNO erupted for five goals in Friday’s second period before eventually coasting to a 6-3 win over Miami in the teams’ weekend series opener. Freshman forward Austin Ortega picked up two goals in that five-goal spurt, while Dominic Zombo, Johnnie Searfoss and Brock Montpetit also all found the net en route to opening up a 5-1 lead over the RedHawks…Forward Josh Archibald netted his 10th goal of the season in Friday’s third period…The only change in UNO’s lineup tonight is that freshman forward Jono Davis comes in on the fourth line right wing, while Justin Parizek is a scratch…Junior goaltender Ryan Massa stopped 29 shots Friday to pick up the win, and he will be rewarded with a second consecutive start Saturday. It’s the first time Massa will have started back-to-back games in the same weekend so far this season…Form (last five results): W-L-W-L-W.

Scouting the RedHawks: RedHawks forward Kevin Morris, who scored late in Friday’s second period, is playing on defense. Taylor Richart and Chris Joyaux, arguably two of Miami’s top three defensemen along with Matthew Caito, are scratches Saturday…Miami went 2-for-7 on the power play last night. It was the first time the RedHawks had scored multiple power play goals since putting three such tallies past Canisius on Nov. 2…Miami forward and captain Austin Czarnik comes into Saturday’s game riding a three-game point streak, putting together two goals and as many assists in that span…Sophomore goaltender Ryan McKay gets his fourth start in the RedHawks’ past five games Saturday night. He also came in in relief for the injured Jay Williams during Miami’s 6-3 loss Friday…Form: W-L-W-L-L.
