Scouting the UNO Mavericks: At 10-5-1 overall and 6-3-1, UNO is tied with North Dakoa for fifth place in the WCHA but has a game in hand on UND…Each of the red Mavericks’ last four games – and five of their last six – have been decided by a single goal. UNO is 5-5 this season in such games…UNO is 7-0-1 so far this season in series openers…Senior goaltender John Faulkner has the WCHA’s highest winning percentage (9-1-1 for .864) of any goaltender in the league in the 2012-13 campaign…Junior forward Ryan Walters has points in eight of his last nine games, having seen his eight-game streak snapped in last Saturday’s 2-1 loss at No. 17 St. Cloud State…Red Maverick assistant coach Troy Jutting is in his first year with the team, having spent the past 12 years as Minnesota State’s head coach and having spent another decade before that as an assistant at MSU…UNO is 5-2-1 at home so far this season…Form (Last five results): W-W-L-W-L.

Scouting the MSU Mavericks: MSU, the WCHA’s surprise package so far this season that currently sits in third place in the league standings, is riding a six-game winning streak coming into this weekend’s series. The purple Mavericks swept, all in a row, Wisconsin at home and then Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage at home…The Mankato, Minn. team was listed in the ‘also receiving votes’ category of the Men’s Division I poll for eight of the last nine weeks before cracking the top 20 on Monday…Sophomore forward Matt Leitner is tied for eighth place in the WCHA scoring chart so far this season, posting four goals and 15 assists for 19 points…Freshman goaltender Stephon Williams has the league’s best goals-against average (1.61 in 15 appearances) and the WCHA’s third-best save percentage (.932)…MSU head coach Mike Hastings is in his first year at the helm in Mankato. He spent the past three seasons as an assistant at UNO under Dean Blais and previously spent 14 years as the head coach of the Omaha Lancers of the USHL, and he is a member of the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame…MSU is 3-3-1 on the road this season…Form: W-W-W-W-W.
