MTU 0-4 UNO: Massa earns first college shutout

Nebraska Omaha freshman Ryan Massa made 35 saves Saturday afternoon en route to his first collegiate shutout, with the visiting Mavericks defeating Michigan Tech 4-0 at Houghton, Mich.’s MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

UNO forward Matt White also starred, scoring the guests’ first two goals on Saturday, including what stood up as the game-winner 6:54 into the second period.

Jayson Megna beat Tech goaltender Josh Robinson for Megna’s first goal of the game and second of the weekend 7:15 into the third period to bring the score to 3-0. UNO defenseman Michael Young later scored a shorthanded goal at 13:10 to round off the rout.

UNO (13-11-6, 10-7-5 WCHA) now sits alone in fifth place in the league on 25 points, one point above North Dakota and two above MTU.

With the loss, the Huskies of MTU saw their record fall to 13-14-3 overall and 10-9-3 in the league, good for seventh place.
